Bałucki Rynek (Bałuty Marketplace) was one of the most important loca-
tions in the ghetto. The offices of the Eldest of the Jews, the German Ghetto
Management and the Central Office of Labour Departments, the unit coor-
dinating the work of all departments in the ghetto, were located at Bałucki
Rynek. The only entrance gate to the ghetto was located there. To get to Bałucki
Rynek, a special pass was needed. In the photos: a view of the Bałucki Rynek.

What exactly is the ghetto? A sealed-off, self-sufficient apparatus,
Jewish state [...]. The President, an elegant elderly grey-haired man,
is the king, and the crowd of Jews brought from everywhere
are his subjects. […] The Jewish district or the “residential area for Jews”
is working. It is working for the German power.
