The main decorative element of the figure is the scene of a battle on a barricade during the
revolution of 1905 in Łódź. At the bottom, the artist placed the coat of arms of the city of Łódź and
a French inscription: To Łódź, the city of my birth, this childhood memory, the moving image of
heroic fight against the aggressor, 1905." As a child, Artur Szyk could have witnessed the street
fights in Łódź. His parents' house was near the barricades and the tsar’s prison. Also in French:
"Translated in Paris in November 1928."
