The illuminated text begins with a single initial, with a decorative frieze at the bottom. In the
center – an extraordinary shield bearing the Polish emblem – the eagle which has an Hebrew
inscription with God's name on its breast.
The decorative bordure bears the following inscription: Eagle from the banner of the Jewish unit
of Josek Berkowicz, son of Berek, Paris 1928. "On both sides of the shield – soldiers wearing
Polish uniforms, above them – a row of coats of arms.
