Franka Freda Kon (born in 1922) was born in Łódź. She lived in her family
home with her parents, brother and sister. During the war, the Kons moved to
the ghetto, where Franka found a job in the so-called “kitchen for the intelli-
gentsia”, located in Zgierska Street. In 1944, she and her family were deported
to Auschwitz, and then to the camp in Stutthof. From there, she, her mother
and sister were transferred to the camp in Schippenbeil, and then walked in
a death march to the next camp, in which all three were liberated. After the
war, Franka returned to Łódź for a short time, where she met her surviving
brother. In 1949, she went to Israel with her husband. After a short stay there,
the family first moved to France and then to Canada.
