7 7. JEWISH CRAFTSMEN
The next work by Artur Szyk included in the Statute of Kalisz
features six scenes and six traditional professions performed in
Poland by Jewish citizens. Polish Jews were mostly tailors (scene 1), 6 61
shoe-makers (scene 2), bakers (scene 3). They were also weavers STATUTE OF KALISZ
(scene 4), smiths (scene 5) and clock-makers (scene 6).
The cross-sections of decorative borders outlining the scenes
feature the emblems of Poland (Eagle) and Lithuania (Pogoń).
