Jurek Błones
(1924-1943)
‘See what a radiant boy he was. We used to print Bund
leaflets in his apartment at Nowolipie Street in the ghetto.
He found himself in Umschlagplatz together with his sister
Guta and 13-year old brother Lusiek, who might have been
the youngest soldier in the Jewish Combat Organization.
In was in the autumn of 1942, it was seemingly calm in
the ghetto, only those who were working in workshops
remained, and suddenly the Germans rounded up a few
hundred people to deport them. The entire Bund group was
there, they were keeping together so that they wouldn’t get
lost. Włodek Rozowski broke a window and threw them out
one by one, and [then] jumped out himself. They all went
back to the ghetto and all of them fought in the uprising.
Jurek commanded one of our groups in the brush workshop,
he was very brave, there’s a lot I could tell you. Actually we
went through the entire uprising together’.
