(Long is the dawn) and Livet till motes (Heading for life). The trilogy about the
Łódź ghetto has not yet been published in Polish or in English, although it had
seven editions in Sweden! Even her long-standing friend, the writer Rosenfarb
did not know it, although one of Larsson’s books was written on the basis of
letters sent to her from Sweden to Canada.
In total, Zenia Larsson published 11 books in Swedish; some of them were
translated into Finnish and Dutch. She was a member of the Swedish Writers’
Association. She was a valued author. When the 200th anniversary of the
presence of Jews in Sweden was celebrated, it was Zenia Marcinkowska
Larsson from Łódź who spoke on behalf of the Swedish Jews in the parliament
in the presence of the king of Sweden. The writer died on 4 September 2007.
Her first novel, The Shadows at the Wooden Bridge, has been translated into
Polish by Piotr Zettinger, but still remains in the manuscript form. Its fragments
were published in the magazine “Midrasz” by prof. Grzegorz Gazda. Planting
a memorial tree in the Survivors’ Park is a symbolic return of Zenia to Łódź.
