In August 1944, he took part in the Warsaw Uprising in the
Żoliborz and Stare Miasto districts in the Armia Ludowa
(People’s Army) group. After the fall of the uprising, he hid
with his fellow combatants in a cellar of the house at 43,
Promyka Street. They were led out of that place through
a mined area by Alina Margolis, a nurse who later became
Marek Edelman’s wife. They found themselves among the
civilians from Warsaw in the camp in Pruszków. The group
of friends stayed in Grodzisk Mazowiecki awaiting the end
of the war.
