‘In principle, life is the most important
thing. And when there is life, then
freedom becomes the most important.
And then you give your life for freedom
and you don’t know what is most
important anymore’.
Marek
Edelman
Marek Edelman resumed his social and political activ-
ity, when opposition made connection with him. He co-
operated with the Workers’ Defense Committee [KOR],
which to him was a continuation of Bund with regard to
their common values: brotherhood, social justice, hatred
against dictatorship.
KOR passed those values to Solidarity, which Marek Edel-
man cooperated with from the beginning
In 1989, he participated in the Round Table Talks in the health
workgroup. In 1991, he stood for the Senate from Unia Wol-
ności’s [Freedom Union] Warsaw list.
