‘A patient would draw all of Dr Edelman’s attention – and
that was what he demanded from his team. It didn’t matter
who the patient was or where they came from. “A doctor
has no choice and has to treat everyone, even an SS-mann,
which is a horrible thing”, he once said. He treated his patients
regardless of their formal entitlement, paying no attention to
administrative rules. He must have been constantly breaking
them, because the only entitlement he recognised was
a disease’.
