In 1940, the Nazis made Chaim Rumkowski the Eldest of the Jews in Łódź. Driven by ambition, trapped in the course of history, he tried to prolong the life of the ghetto as long as it was possible, which made him an important element of the economy of the 3rd Reich. In his speech on September 4, 1942, he uttered the horrible words: “Give me your children”. The children were given away to the Nazis on the following day.
