May 21 marks the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. For the past 4 years, around this date, the Marek Edelman Dialogue Center in Łódź, together with the Łódź of Diversity Coalition and partners, has been organizing Łódź Picnic Of Diversity. The main goal of the event is to promote the multiculturalism of Łódź and respect for human rights. Drawing from the many traditions and customs of the city's residents, we build a program of various activities for participants. The picnic is open to anyone who want to learn the language, traditions, games, and music; and to those who have lived in Łódź for generations or those who have chosen Łódź as their second home. Additionally, in the face of a constant sense of threat and uncertainty related to wars around the world, the picnic aims to be a place where, in an atmosphere of safety and friendship, we will discuss various topics related to building social relationships, arousing curiosity about the traditions and customs of different cultures.
Among the invited partners are organizations and institutions that are engaged in assistance, educational, and multicultural activities on a daily basis. Together, we have created a program that addresses the diverse needs of different audience groups.
The picnic is an event announcing the Łódź of Many Cultures Festival (formerly the Łódź of Four Cultures Festival), which will take place from October 4-13, 2024. The festival is the largest celebration of diversity and intercultural dialogue in Łódź.

WORKSHOPS

Open workshop, age of participants 3+ (with guardians).
During the workshop, participants will create photo frames (take your own photos with you, there will also be the possibility of printing them on-site with a color printer). Working on the frame becomes an excuse for conversation, sharing experiences and memories. The project can incorporate elements related to cultural diversity, e.g. by using materials typical for different cultures or encouraging participants to share stories behind the chosen photos. The final products - personalized photo frames with pictures - can become a beautiful symbol of the friendships that participants experienced during the workshop. You can take them home as a souvenir and a reminder of the value of diversity and how collaborative creation can bring people together. This is not only an opportunity to develop dexterity but above all to build bridges between people.

String art is a fascinating form of art that involves creating images by threading colorful strings, threads, or yarn onto a board with nails. Participants learn not only the techniques of creating images but also patience, precision, and mutual support. Finished works can become beautiful decorations or personal gifts, adding emotional value to the effort put into creating them. Therefore, string art isn’t only an interesting form of activity but also a way to get to know each other, develop skills, and build positive interpersonal relationships.

Making figures out of salt dough is an excellent form of play and creative development for children. This workshop can be a fascinating adventure that develops dexterity, imagination, and patience in the youngest participants. During the workshop, children will have access to various tools such as rolling pins, cookie cutters, or plastic knives, as well as dyes, allowing them to precisely shape imagined characters. After finishing the work, the figurines can be baked in the oven or left to dry naturally, making them a lasting souvenir and proof of creatively spent time.

During our comic workshop, you will discover the fascinating world of creating comics, where creativity meets with artistic craftsmanship. The aim of our workshop will be to introduce you to the process of creating comics - from sketches to final illustrations. You will learn how to use various drawing and narrative techniques. Start your drawing adventure, our workshop will provide you with the knowledge and inspiration needed to create your own unique comic.

Cooking together with the Foundation Towards Dialogue during the Łódź Picnic Of Diversity is a fascinating cultural experience where you not only get to know the tastes but also the culture in a broader sense. Nothing brings people together like food, and the opportunity to prepare it in an atmosphere of friendship, curiosity, and openness naturally builds bridges and threads of understanding.
In this culinary feast, each dish will be like a page from a history textbook, telling about unknown traditions and customs. Therefore, cooking together will become not only a way to prepare a meal but also an excuse for creating bonds and mutual respect.
The Toward Dialogue Foundation, established in 2012, is a leading organization working for the Roma community in Poland. We engage in advocacy, provide assistance, react to inequalities, educate, and empower people. We operate at the national and international levels. We run the Roma Community Center in Warsaw. We are building the prospective Poland - diverse, open, and multicultural, where the Roma community is treated equally with others.
