I have been a pagan for 10 years, and openly an Ásatrú for 8
years. As a person worshipping religion so different from the
dominating monotheistic religions, I sometimes face aggression,
sometimes I’m not taken seriously, but most of the times my inter-
locutors react with a great interest. There are many pagan reli-
gions, they have their own rules, Gods, rites, some of them are
registered as religious organizations or churches, but it doesn’t
matter since – for most of the people – we are some kind of a sect,
because we are not Catholics. For me, being a pagan means be-
ing free. This religion does not induce in its disciples a feeling of
guilt – an idea of sin does not exist, there is no rigorous framework
and hierarchy – everybody can be a preacher without any ex-
ception. But it doesn’t mean that we lack principles or morality,
absolutely not! Morality and being a good person does not result
from religion, but from inner feeling, character and willingness.
